Pricing FAQ
- Can I try SpecShield before paying?
- Yes — the Free plan is free forever, no card required. It includes unlimited spec comparisons, breaking-change detection in CI and a GitHub App PR check, so you can prove the workflow on a real repo before you upgrade.
- Isn't this just an OpenAPI diff? Tools like oasdiff do that for free.
- Detection is the free part here too — our CLI, the public web diff, and breaking-change checks in CI cost nothing, and open-source diff tools are excellent at raw diffing. You pay SpecShield when you need to enforce changes across a team: block a deploy that would break a consumer, keep a registry of who depends on your API, and prove every change was reviewed. That's the part free diff tools don't do.
- Do I need to write contract tests (Pact) to use this?
- No. SpecShield is OpenAPI-native — it works from the spec you already have, with no Pact DSL or provider verification suites to write. Point it at your spec, install the GitHub App, and you have a compatibility gate in minutes.
- What's the difference between Free and Team?
- Free catches breaking changes — detection in CI, the CLI, the public web diff, and one PR check. Team adds the enforcement layer for a group that owns an API others depend on: a consumer registry so you know who relies on you, an enforced can-i-deploy gate across services, an audit trail of every change and gate decision, BDCT, Slack alerts, and a shared workspace with role-based access. Free catches breaks; Team stops them from shipping and proves it.
- Do I need a whole team to get value?
- No — Free is genuinely useful for an individual: breaking-change detection on push, the CLI, and the public web diff all work without a paid plan. Team is for when an API has consumers you can't afford to break and you want to gate deploys and prove safety across people.
- How does Enterprise pricing work?
- Enterprise is custom — email sales@specshield.io and we'll scope SSO, on-prem or private-cloud deployment, advanced governance, and a dedicated SLA to your needs. Everything in Team is included.
- Are taxes included in the price?
- Prices are shown excluding tax. VAT, GST or sales tax is added at checkout where your country requires it, and shown before you pay. Paddle is our merchant of record and handles tax on our behalf.
- Do you offer annual discounts?
- Yes — Team billed annually is roughly 15% cheaper: $75/mo (billed yearly) instead of $89. Free is free; Enterprise pricing is custom.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- All major cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB) via Stripe. SEPA, ACH, and wire transfer are available on Enterprise plans by request.
- I need more than 25 seats / SSO / on-prem — what do I do?
- For Enterprise plans (unlimited seats, SAML SSO, on-prem option, custom SLA), email sales@specshield.io. We typically respond within one business day.
